Yesterday,(09.05.2014) Prof G Naga Saibaba of Delhi University was waylaid by Maharashtra Police while on his way home for lunch from the examination evaluation center. His mobile was switched off; his driver blindfolded and taken to some Police Station. He was not allowed to talk to his friends, family, lawyers and was foribly bundled in the plane to take him to Gasrhchirauli in Maharashtra, where JNU student and cultural activist Hem Mishra and journalist, Prashant Rahi are already in jail for their alleged Naxal connection. This is pure fascism. I know Saibaba, a bold young activist Professor for over a decade when he was a student at English Dept., Delhi University and subsequently as a colleague and a co-traveler in the service of humanity by standing in defense of human rights, particularly of the downtrodden, the wretched of the earth. Undeterred by being 90% physically challenged and depending on a wheel chair and repeated Police harassment, he has been performing his twin jobs -- teaching as a teacher and activism as a conscientious citizen-- meticulously with almost perfection, as can be known by his extreme popularity among his students and government's apprehension with his free existence. Friends, this undeclared emergency is more dangerous than the declared one. In the undeclared one only poor and the oppressed and their supporters are targeted and get negligible support from middle classes. Let us rise and oppose this Noe-McCarthyism, today it is Sai tomorrow may be any of us who ever stands up against injustices. We are with you Sai.
