The rape

  I have to write an analytical article for a Hindi magazine on a brutal gang rape and physical assault on a physiotherapy student and her boy friend. Its early morning here with solitude in my bamboo-hut study but unable to start.  There have been hue and cry all around morally and socially perpetuating her pain. All the parliamentarians are shredding crocodile tears. One former communication minister and presently leader of opposition said in the parliament to show her concern, "Now there is no difference of her living and dying". Is it not a moral rape by patriarchal values. The channels are competing to increase their TRP by sensationalizing it. Instead of it being a shame on coward MCP perpetrators, why is it shame on the victim. The middle class has suddenly woken up from the slumber and demanding the death to perpetrators, as if by hanging couple of rascals, rape will stop. Rape has always been an enigma. In 2002 there were public rapes in communal pogrom of the Muslims by Hindutva fascists. It can not be sexuality that is the climax of intensity of mutuality. How can you get erection under public gaze and ...... The rapist thinks that he has ruined her and the victim too feels that she has lost everything and society keeps reminding her of that. As if the essence of a female personality lies between their legs not withstanding the plenty of of examples of women flying beyond the skies with their intellectual prowess. The final fight has to be against the ideology of gender which we create and perpetuate in our every day discourse through our phrases; idioms and other cultural practices. People have to be told that a woman is a full-fledged equal human being with her own sexuality. She is not just a passive sensuous body or sex machine.
