JNU 6

These are some comments on some JNU forums.

I am proud of being a JNUite  in its early days and discussing views on national, international issues and JNSU's unique constitution makes it a unique institution.Understanding national and international issues, progressive and reactionary ideologies helps understand the local issues better and taking them up in a more significant way. You must have heard about 1983-84 being a zero year as a consequence of a long drawn agitation and its suppression by Police action and rustication.I all around 20 people were rusticated couple  of whom later apologized and were taken back. The agitation was not for any international issue but for the retention of old, democratic admission policy that gave JNU a really national character and that has been diluted. Only once hiked DTC fare was rolled back as a result of protracted struggle by JNU students in which there was lathicharge  and arrests. many people including Ritu Jairathb(presently a professor in CRS/SL) were seriously injured.JNU students enjoying Rs.12.50 all rout passes had no sectarian interests in it.It is the demcratic legacies that makes it special institution to attract students from all over and those who are able to make it, are the lucky ones and must take advantage of it to become good, rational human-beings.
